RAD 014 is being made.
From a lump of raw clay to a work that lives. Here you can follow this piece taking shape, step by step.

How this work is being made
The idea arrived
DoneIt starts from a feeling and an image. The first sketch takes shape on paper.

The form was found
DoneThe clay is wedged and the form rises on the wheel. Its size and proportions are settled here.

Drying
DoneThe piece dries slowly at room temperature until it is ready for its first firing.

First kiln
DoneThe first firing hardens the body and readies it for glaze.
Today your RAD went into the kiln for the first time.

Glaze
Glaze goes on by hand. The final colour stays unknown until after the kiln.
It's here now11 days since it began.
Something happened. The glaze on this part did not become what we thought. We kept it.

Last kilnComing
The second firing turns glaze to glass; things happen here that will not happen again.

Ready to leaveComing
The work leaves the kiln, receives its number and is ready to go.
